Middle Island teenager involved in fatal crash
Cops: Mastic man’s car was struck by 17-year-old’s
PEGGY SPELLMAN HOEY | STAFF WRITERA Middle Island teenager was involved in a crash that claimed the life of a Mastic man Sunday afternoon in Yaphank, Suffolk Police said.
A 17-year-old teenager from Middle Island was traveling south on Sills Road shortly before 4 p.m. when her 2005 Toyota struck a 1990 Honda as it was pulling out of the Baseball Heaven Sport Complex parking lot, police said. The driver, Francesco DiMaria, 77, of Mastic was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. The teen and three passengers in her car were also transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No charges were filed or tickets were issued in connection with the crash, police said. The investigation is continuing, police said. Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Fifth Squad Detectives at 631-854-8552.
